My business name is The Hot Spot, Salon & Cosmetics. THS began in 2017 when I opened a 600-sq ft salon for two other stylists and me in Conway, Arkansas. From the initial day of opening until now, I have made sure to represent my company at fashion shows, public and private photoshoots, editorial and front-page photography opportunities, with high-status clientele, local television, local and out-of-town educational conferences, and industry events, and the list goes on. With my move to Northwest Arkansas in 2021, my goal is to market and advertise my business so that it becomes a household name within our evolving area. Northwest Arkansas is expected to have a population growth of over 600,000 people by 2026, and each major city sees over 50% of that growth, contributing to diversity numbers. There are more than 90 countries represented in our area and over 87 languages spoken. The University of Arkansas, just miles from my salon, has over 30,000 students worldwide. What does this mean for my business? This means that I provide a service beyond the Black or African-American Community; the Hot Spot is haircare for all hair types. I am developing community initiatives such as gender-neutral makeup classes with a local therapeutic art studio owned by another Black Woman who has been in our community for over seven years. I have worked with Fayetteville Public Library to bring haircare classes for multicultural families with children with kinky and coily hair and will provide these with other groups more as well here. I offer private salon education to salons seeking texture education or to expand their scope of clientele. I plan to not only change the lives of the clientele who directly support my business, but I also plan to change the lives of my community and industry.
