Exactly fifteen miles from Powell’s Books and one mile outside the urban growth boundary, Our Table farm sits on 58-acres of land in Sherwood, Oregon. As a food and farm cooperative, we do everything from growing to packaging to cooking and selling the foods that we create. We don’t; however, do this alone—integral to our multi-stakeholder collective are customers and off-farm regional producers that come together with the workers on our farm to redefine our local food system. Our commitment is to restore transparency and solidarity to our local food system--starting with fair wages paid to farmers and extending to open customer communication about how food is produced. By cultivating these values, we are crafting a re-localized food network that allows everyone involved to have a communal investment in what we eat.
Our Story

The Our Table story began with one family: the Varmas. In 2011, Narendra and Machelle Varma formed a not-for-profit entity, known as Community by Design LLC, which purchased our Sherwood farm in the fall of that year. Since this time, we have been restoring the farm’s ecology and developing its infrastructure. As stewards of our land, we pursue a diversified and close-looped ecosystem by practicing Biodynamic farming techniques. Accordingly, we needed a social structure to complement our relationship to the land—enter Our Table Cooperative. We incorporated our cooperative in February of 2013 with three membership classes: workers on our farm in Sherwood, other independent food producers from the region, and customers. During 2013, our co-op family of nine brought our first foods to market including blueberries, a year-round vegetable CSA, grass-fed beef, free-range geese and pastured chickens. On the construction front, we completed our packing shed and are on the verge of breaking ground on our farm stand and commercial kitchen. Look out for the opening of our farm stand during the summer of 2014 as we work to bring more certified local foods to where we live and eat.
Our Ambition

Communal investment in what we eat and how it’s grown can take many forms. We invest in our co-op, our land, our community, and our customers and offer you the chance to do the same through the purchase of Credibles with us. As we continue to set up shop, what we need more than anything is to have people support us through their spending and eating choices—doing so will have a profound effect on your table and our community.
