Gluten-free comfort food with Oakland soul
We make gluten-free comfort food from scratch. Gluten free means no wheat, rye, barley or oats. Some believe its healthy to avoid eating these grains while others who are allergic don't eat them at all. Because beloved foods like fried chicken, waffles, and cookies are almost always made of wheat, we made it our mission to make delicious versions using rice flour, potato starch and other great (& often overlooked) whole grains. Our devotion to flavor is why we’ve become an Oakland hotspot.

Grease Box is moving to a new space in burgeoning downtown. In the next 5 years we will be growing the cafe into an all day restaurant with pastries & hot breakfast, fresh sandwiches and burgers, smoked meats, sourdough bread baked daily and the most comprehensive gluten free beer and cider selection in the Bay Area. Our plan is to collaborate with the other queer women-owned businesses in our neighborhood, and become an essential asset to the community.
